When Eric joined Boston MedFlight in March 2020, just days before the COVID-19 lockdown, he stepped into an already high-pressure role during one of the most unpredictable times in healthcare. “All the normal processes were out the window,” he recalls. “But for me, that was normal. I learned to adapt from day one.”
Eric’s path to Boston MedFlight was anything but linear — starting as an EMT, gaining experience in 911 dispatch and police/fire communications, and even training to become an air traffic controller. That mix of clinical, dispatch, and aviation knowledge laid the groundwork for his success in one of the most demanding roles at the organization.
The Communications Center is where Boston MedFlight’s mission begins. Whether coordinating helicopter, ground, or fixed-wing transports, the team manages complex logistics while providing calm, clear guidance to hospitals, EMS partners, and families in moments of crisis. “We’re often the first voice someone hears,” Eric explains. “It’s a huge responsibility — and an opportunity to make sure every patient starts their journey with confidence.”
It’s also a role that demands constant learning and teamwork. From aviation safety to resource management, continuing education is core to the job. But beyond certifications, the culture of collaboration sets this team apart. “There’s no ego here. Whether you’ve been here a week or five years, your input matters,” he says. “We lean on each other, speak up, and solve problems together — because patients are counting on us to get it right.”
Over the years, Eric has helped shape training improvements for new hires and supports the team as a preceptor. One proud moment? Spotting an oil leak under an aircraft from the Comm Center window — a small observation that prevented serious damage. “It was a reminder that every detail matters, and everyone has a role to play in safety.”
For those considering the field, Eric is clear: “If you want to take everything you’ve learned in EMS, dispatch, and communication — and apply it at the highest level, this is it. Boston MedFlight is where it all comes together.”
