For the first time in our 40-year history, Boston MedFlight is proud to have a team of five dedicated runners participating in the 129th Boston Marathon on April 21, 2025, in celebration and support of the work we do every day providing critical care medical transport. Each of these incredible individuals has a deeply personal connection to our mission of providing lifesaving critical care transport to those in need.
Mia Nikolakopoulos: A Race for Her Brother – In 2016, Mia’s brother, George, experienced a severe and life-threatening allergic reaction that required urgent medical intervention. Boston MedFlight played a critical role in getting him to the right facility in time, ensuring he received the care he needed to make a full recovery. Now, Mia is running the 2025 Boston Marathon to give back to the organization that helped save her brother’s life. Learn more and support Mia’s run here.
Kelly Dwyer: A Daughter’s Gratitude – In January 2023, Kelly’s mom, Terry, suffered sudden cardiac arrest at home. Thanks to the quick-thinking actions of her then 7-year-old son, brother, dad, and the Abington Fire Department, she was rushed to a local hospital. However, as her condition rapidly declined, it became clear she needed to get to Tufts Medical Center. That’s when Boston MedFlight stepped in, navigating treacherous winter conditions to get Terry the critical care that ultimately saved her life. Learn more and support Kelly’s run here.
Alexandra Matsis: Running in Memory of Her Uncle – Alexandra is running to honor the memory of her uncle, Dr. James Dargin—a devoted father, husband, dedicated Pulmonary and Critical Care intensivist, and former Associate Medical Director at Boston MedFlight. His legacy of compassion, mentorship, and excellence continues to inspire Alexandra, driving her determination to raise funds in his name and ensure that his work lives on through Boston MedFlight’s mission. David Novak: Running with Resilience – David’s run is driven by his passion for ensuring critically ill and injured patients get the care they need and by his extraordinary commitment to celebrating life. He is determined to complete his third Abbott World Major, having finished the last two within just over a year after receiving his own lifesaving kidney transplant. His journey is a testament to the power of resilience and gratitude, proving that incredible achievements are possible no matter the challenge. Learn more and support David’s run here.
Lara Jaugust: Believing in the Power of Aviation – As a pilot, Lara is passionate not only about aviation but also about its power to help those in need. She is fundraising and running for Boston MedFlight in support of crew training, lifesaving equipment, and community education—all of which make the organization the best of the best and a critical resource for patients in need, regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay.
