Ground Transport
Critical Care That Moves with You
While our aircraft often get the spotlight, Boston MedFlight’s ground transport program is just as vital—and just as advanced. Our critical care ambulances bring ICU-level care to patients across Massachusetts and beyond, whether they’re traveling five miles or fifty.
Every transport, whether by ground or by air, is staffed with the same credentialed clinical team, equipped with the same advanced technology, and coordinated through our Communications Center to ensure seamless care from bedside to bedside.

Not Just a Ride, A Mobile ICU
Our fleet of 9 ground vehicles are more than ambulances—they’re fully equipped mobile ICUs, staffed by the same expert clinicians who fly our air missions. Each vehicle is specially configured for critical care transport and mirrors the layout and equipment of our aircraft, supporting consistency and rapid intervention when needed most.
These are not your typical town ambulances. Our vehicles feature reinforced structures for enhanced crash safety, along with advanced driving technology typically found in high-end vehicles—including 360° cameras, blind-spot monitoring, backup power systems, and environmental controls—all designed to protect patients and crews during transport.
Our ground teams frequently provide interfacility transport between ICUs, cardiac centers, and specialty hospitals. Ground is often the best option when:
- The distance is relatively short
- Weather or aviation limitations apply
Just like our helicopters, inside every ground vehicle, you’ll find:
- Advanced ventilators, monitors, and infusion systems
- The latest safety technology in advanced ambulance vehicles
- Emergency medications
- Specialized equipment for neonatal and pediatric care
Driven by the Same Mission
Whether in the air or on the road, our goal is the same: to bring the highest level of care to every patient, every time. Our ground operations are staffed by the same elite clinicians who fly our air missions—supported by EMTs who assist with patient care, equipment management, and operational coordination to keep each transport safe, smooth, and focused on the patient.
