Boston MedFlight to Expand Services with New Base in Mansfield, Mass.January 29, 2018 BEDFORD, Mass. – Boston MedFlight, a nonprofit critical care transport service, has announced plans to expand its medical helicopter service from a new base in Mansfield to better serve patients in the region, particularly on the South Coast, Cape Cod and Islands.
Boston MedFlight, with bases currently located at airports in Bedford, Lawrence, and Plymouth, is scheduled to begin operations from Mansfield Municipal Airport in March 2018. The new base of operations will address the critical care transport needs of patients across southeastern Massachusetts and further improve emergency response times to the region.
“We have seen increased demand for our services, and by opening this base we are continuing to strive to better serve the most critically ill and injured patients in the region,” said Maura Hughes, CEO of Boston MedFlight. “The Mansfield base will facilitate faster response times, particularly in more diffuse areas such as the Cape, Islands, and South Coast, which will further improve patient care.”
Boston MedFlight’s new base has received approval from the Town of Mansfield’s Airport Commission. “We are proud to announce the arrival of Boston MedFlight to Mansfield Municipal Airport in March 2018. This arrival will provide a resource for emergency medical transportation to Mansfield as well as surrounding towns and communities. This new venture by Boston MedFlight is a positive to the community” said Bob Welch, Mansfield Municipal Airport Manager.
During the organization’s 32-year history, the growth of its helicopter service, the creation of its ground critical care and airplane services, and the development of its communications and medical simulation centers have made Boston MedFlight an integral part of the region’s health care delivery system.
